Native Son / OCT 2015
Joe Leavenworth
October 2nd - November 2nd
Joe Leavenworth’s Native Son is an evolving collection of photographs meandering the American South as Joe mines his estranged biological relationship to Georgia. Adopted at birth in Decatur, GA 1985, Joe was raised in Woodbury, Connecticut and in 2009 he made his first independent drive back to Georgia. Propelled by the words of his biological mother and openness to chance encounter, Joe’s incidental observations offer disjointed impressions of a place and people in which he imagines and seeks a sense of belonging.
Joe Leavenworth is an artist living and working in New York City. Born during 1985 in Decatur, Georgia, Joe was raised in Woodbury, Connecticut and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2007.
